Botanical Name: Dicentra spectabilis ‘Hordival’

Height: 24-30″
Width: 30-36″
Exposure: Full shade to part sun
Flower Time: Spring to Fall
Flower Color: Deep red
Usage: Woodland gardens, shady perennial borders

An old-fashioned favorite with a vibrant new look, featuring superb clusters of heart-shaped deep red flowers from arching red stems. Deeply lobed, gray-green to purple-green foliage forms a tidy, compact, mounding clump. Pairs well with hostas and ferns that will fill in as the foliage retreats in summer. An herbaceous perennial.  Care – Prefers fertile, humusy, neutral pH, loose, well-drained soils; avoid heavy, soggy soils. Water deeply, regularly in first growing season to establish an extensive root system. May go dormant in hot, dry summer conditions. Apply a low-nitrogen fertilizer in early spring. Remove old, faded foliage before new leaves emerge in spring.
