A beautiful little accent tree for the garden or smaller home landscape; leaves emerge a dazzling bright red in spring before turning much darker in summer, only to turn fiery scarlet in fall; an ideal dynamic color accent. Pixie Japanese Maple has attractive burgundy foliage which emerges red in spring. The lobed palmate leaves are highly ornamental and turn an outstanding scarlet in the fall. Neither the flowers nor the fruit are ornamentally significant. The rough gray bark and black branches add an interesting dimension to the landscape. ixie Japanese Maple is a deciduous tree with a strong central leader and a more or less rounded form. Its relatively fine texture sets it apart from other landscape plants with less refined foliage. This is a relatively low maintenance tree, and should only be pruned in summer after the leaves have fully developed, as it may ‘bleed’ sap if pruned in late winter or early spring. It has no significant negative characteristics.
