TED LARE

We cover a wide range of Central Iowa. We have installed landscapes for many years in all areas of the Des Moines metro, including West Des Moines, Des Moines, Waukee, Clive, Urbandale, Johnston, Ankeny, Altoona, Indianola, and Norwalk. We also travel to other areas within a few hours of Des Moines. We do charge a little more to visit these further locations, but we are happy to complete your landscape project, wherever you are located in Iowa.

Landscaping Services

At Ted Lare, we have been creating beautiful landscapes in Des Moines for over 35 years. All of our landscape designers have a bachelor degree in landscape architecture from Iowa State University and the experience and creativity to bring your outdoor living space to life. We will meet with you to create a personal landscaping plan based on your unique space and vision. Plans may include planting, water features and LED lighting, as well as outdoor living elements such as pools, patios, retaining walls, and outdoor kitchens. From designing single landscaping elements to giving your yard a full makeover, we do it all. Our attention to detail is what sets us apart and ensures that we are able to design a yard you will enjoy for years to come.

Fire Pits and Fireplaces

Nothing takes you back to child hood memories like a gathering around a fire pit or cozy fireplace. We have built dozens of fire pits and fireplaces in Central Iowa out of many different types of natural and man-made stone.

Outdoor Living Rooms

Fire pits, Fireplaces, Outdoor Kitchens, Lounge Furniture, and Expansive Patios…. your outdoor living space is full of opportunities. Our central clients love their outdoor living spaces because they create a fun space that can be used for entertaining large groups or just hanging out with their family.

Pergolas, Shade Structures, and Covered Patios

If you like to spend a lot of time outside through the heat and the rain then a pergola or covered porch might be the right choice for you. Adding a covered porch attached to your home or a pergola over your patio space can make the time you spend outside much more enjoyable.

Pathways

Do you need better access to your backyard? Or perhaps a footpath from your patio to your garden? The timeless look of flagstone never gets old. If you like a more modern look, we also build a lot of streamlined paver pathways in the Des Moines area.

Paver Patios

Each year there are more manufactured paver stone choices available for patios and retaining walls. Many of them mimic natural stone quite well and the material is under warranty for life. We can help you pick out the right material for your patio.

Landscape Construction and Planting Installation

Once your landscape design is complete, one of our specialized construction crews will bring the design to life. Your designer will oversee the progress throughout the construction process and make any refinements as needed to ensure the job turns out beautifully. Our goal is to make the landscaping process as easy for you as possible, leaving you with a project you are happy with the first time. Below are examples of our most common installation services.

Planting Beds, Tree Plantings, and Annual Flowers

The correct planting design choice can make or break an entire project. Our designers have worked on hundreds of planting makeovers here in Central Iowa, building upon each experience to develop styles and plant pallets that look great from day one. We can make a huge difference at your house in just a few days with a front yard or backyard planting makeover.

Pool Installations

We design and manage several pool installations every year in the Des Moines area and the surrounding communities, working with each client to create the desired look and feel for their backyard resort. If you are interested in building a pool, it is best to plan a year ahead as the process takes some planning. We will make sure to get it right the first time.

Retaining Walls

Many projects require the installation of a retaining wall for proper function and use of the space. There are many material options to choose from. Our most popular retaining wall installations are Granite Boulder Walls or Limestone Walls in different varieties and sizes.

Stone Stairways

Stairways are often needed to connect different spaces in the landscape or transition from inside to outside. We build each stone stairway out of strong heavy material that looks great and will last a very long time. Who new stairways could look so good?

Natural Stone Fountains, Ponds, and Waterfalls

The sound of a custom stone fountain brings a sense of calm and tranquility to any space around your home. We can build any size of fountain for you, with just the right amount of creativity and whimsy. If you want a more dramatic effect, there is nothing more dramatic in a landscape than a rumbling waterfall splashing down a hill side or a sheet of water falling over a six foot drop. If you want to take your landscape to the next level, a cascading stone waterfall will get you there.

Vegetable Gardens

The popularity of gardening is hitting an all-time high as people have taken an interest in what they eat and how it gets there. Here are a few custom gardens we have built to enhance the way clients grow their vegetables.
